Fiberoptic Bronchoscopy

Bronchoscopy is a procedure in which a cylindrical fiberoptic scope is inserted into the airways. This scope contains a viewing device that allows the visual examination of the lower airways.

Fibreoptic bronchoscopy is used  in respiratory problems to diagnose various lung conditions and as the scope can reach internal areas, these tissues can be well visualized and samples can be taken for biopsy

This is mainly used to access lung internal areas and careful inspection of lung architecture can be performed in cases of pulmonary tuberculosis, pnemonias and in patients with foreign bodies .In such cases these foreign bodies can be taken out and bronchoscopy acts as a treatment modality used by chest physicians. Malignacies or tumours in lungs can be reached for biopsy and visualization.
